Digital Signature Certificate Definition:

Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is a secure digital key issued by a Certifying Authority that verifies the identity of the holder (CA). Typically, it contains your name (name, email, country, APNIC account name, and your public key). Digital signature is a type of electronic signature that can be used to confirm the authorship of a communication or document. Only Class III DSCs will be issued throughout India as of January 1, 2021.

Who issues Digital Signature Certificate:

Under the Information Technology Act of 2000, the Indian Government recognizes digital signatures. In accordance with section 17 of Act, the Central Government has appointed the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) for purposes of the IT Act. It seeks to promote the expansion of E-Commerce and E-Government through the widespread adoption of digital signatures. The CCA issues Digital Signature generation licenses to Indian Certifying Authorities. Through their respective Registering Authorities, Certifying Authorities (CA) issue Digital Signatures (RA). Currently, there are fifteen Certifying Authorities, and eMudhra and Capricorn are widely utilized in India. Business Setup in India is one of the authorities in India responsible for digital processing signatures.

Class III digital signature certificate types include:

Class-III DSCs are available in two forms: (1) Signing and (2) Signing & Encryption.

What is the validity period of DSC:

The Class-III DSC can be obtained for a period of two or three years. When the period of validity expires, they must renew it.
